Audrey Louise Rowland, 88, passed away Thursday, September 3, 2015 at the Mennonite Friendship Communities in South Hutchinson, KS. She was born March 25, 1927 to Harry and Inez Priddy in the Liberal, KS area. The family settled in rural Cullison, KS, where her father farmed.
She graduated from Cullison High School and attended Southwestern College. There she met her husband of 67 years, J.D. Rowland. After their marriage, J.D. and Audrey resided at Protection, KS for over 20 years, where she taught school and assisted her husband in various business ventures. They then resided in Newton, KS for over 20 years, Rogers, AR, for 20 years and Hutchinson, KS, for 5 years. In each locale, Audrey and J.D. sought to be a vital part of their church activities. Audrey also participated in P.E.O., Eastern Star and the Saints Alive Choir.
J.D. and Audrey traveled through much of the United States and enjoyed several trips to Europe and Canada. Audrey loved to sing, frequently singing while attending to her home, as well as singing with small choral groups. She played a number of instruments: organ, violin, piano, and trombone. Her love of art led to drawing painting, quilting, square dancing, and other creative endeavors.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Laurence and Robert, sister Marie Ayres and daughter-in-law, Cindy Rowland.
She is survived by husband, J.D. Rowland, son John (Carol Ann) Rowland of Tyler, Texas, daughter Beth Whittredge (Don) of Hutchinson, Kansas and son Sid (Laurel) Rowland of Wellman, Iowa, grandchildren Ben Whittredge (Amy), Erin Smith (Jay), Hannah McClellen (Drew), Mitchell Rowland, Katie Rowland and Joseph Rowland. Great-grandchildren include Alexis, Lily, William and Cecilia Whittredge, Jack, Cameron and Cora Smith, Addie and Alex McClellen. She is also survived by her sister, Wilma Baldwin of Salina, Kansas and various beloved nieces and nephews.
Funeral service is at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 8, 2015, at the United Methodist Church in Protection, KS, with Rev. Jessie Zimmerman presiding. Burial will follow the funeral service at Protection Cemetery in Protection, KS.
Memorial service is at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 9, 2015, at the Mennonite Manor Chapel, 600 W. Blanchard, South Hutchinson, KS, with Lou Gomez presiding.
