Betty Lorraine Ewy, 95, passed away Thursday, December 10, 2020, at Pioneer Lodge in Coldwater, KS. Born November 28, 1925 on a farm south of Protection, KS, she was the daughter of Abram Lake "Ben" and Bessie (Jordan) Christopher.
Betty was a lifetime resident of Protection, KS. She attended Collier Flats Country School and graduated from Protection High School in 1943. She worked at Jone's Drug Store before going to work as a bank teller in 1945 at Farmer's State Bank which later became the Bank of Protection, where she retired from in 1988. After retirement, she worked as a hostess at Don's Café in Protection for many years.
Betty was a member of Protection United Methodist Church in Protection, KS. Other memberships include: 50 year member of Order of Eastern Star; Mothers' Study Club; Thursday Afternoon Pitch Club; and Protection Golf Club.
On August 22, 1948, she married Gene Ewy at Protection, KS. He preceded her in death on February 13, 1975.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers and their wives: Earl Christopher (June) and Walter Christopher (Lillie).
She is survived by one daughter: Christi McMillen (Stan) of Dodge City, KS; one son: Tim Ewy (Kathy) of Protection, KS; seven grandchildren: John McMillen (Annette), Sam McMillen, Carrie McMillen, April Ewy, Janell Crissup (Jesse), Chris Ewy (Olivia Chao), and Danny Abramczak; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Public calling times are from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 14, 2020, at Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, Coldwater, KS.
A private family graveside service will be held at Protection Cemetery in Protection, KS, with Pastor Rusty Westerfield presiding.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Pioneer Lodge or St. Jude's Children's Hospital in care of Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, P.O. Box 417, Coldwater, KS 67029.
