Cathy Marie Smith, 75, passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2025 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS.  Born November 24, 1949 in Glendale, CA, she was the daughter of Ted Royce and Opal Ida (Brewer) Hughes.

Cathy graduated from Campbell County High School in Gillette, WY in 1968.  She attended Casper College in Casper, WY, received an associate's degree from Dodge City Community College, and attended N.W.O.S.U. in Alva, OK.

On April 16, 1977, she married Ronald L. Smith at Odessa, TX.  He survives.

A lifetime resident of Protection, KS, Cathy worked as a secretary for Comanche County Hospital, Clark County Hospital, Shaw Feedyard, and The City of Protection during her life.  She was a member of Order of Eastern Star; Beta Sigma Phi; and served on the Board for Centennial Court Apartments.

She is survived by her husband: Ron Smith of Protection, KS; one son: Matt Smith and his wife Erica of WaKeeney, KS; four grandchildren: Reece, Cass, Case, and Charley Smith; a brother-in-law: Larry Smith and his wife Debbie of Protection, KS; and numerous cousins and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation with Family Present will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 18, 2025 at Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home in Coldwater, KS.

Funeral Service is at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 19, 2025 at Protection Methodist Church in Protection, KS with Rev. Billie Blair presiding.

Burial will follow the funeral service at Protection Cemetery in Protection, KS.
