Charles Miner Austin III
Charles Miner Austin III, 70, passed away Sunday, March 29, 2015, at his residence in Protection, KS. Born August 7, 1944, at Wilkes-Barre, PA, he was the son of Charles Miner and Anna Merel (James) Austin, Jr.
Charles was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Air Force from 1963-1967. He was deployed to Vietnam from 1966-1967, serving with the 37th Aero Rescue Recovery Squadron.
On February 25, 1966, he married Brenda Faye Rollins at Wichita Falls, TX. She survives.
Charles graduated from Draughons Business College in Wichita Falls, TX in 1970 with a degree in computer programing. He was a long time resident of Protection, KS, moving there in 1974. He was a member of the Protection Volunteer Fire/Rescue Department for many years.
He is survived by his wife: Brenda Austin of Protection, KS; one son: Charlie Austin of Protection, KS; one daughter: Alicia Cardenas and her husband LTC Roberto of Las Vegas, NV; one brother: Doug Austin of Mountaintop, PA; three grandchildren: Molly Klefstadt of Glendale, AZ, Ashton Cardenas of Las Vegas, NV, and Alex Cardenas of Las Vegas, NV; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother: Jim Austin.
Funeral service is at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, Coldwater, KS, with Pastor Rod Crowell presiding.
Graveside service with full military honors is at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 2, 2015, at Protection Cemetery in Protection, KS, with Pastor Brandon Hagins presiding.
