Charles L. 'Chuck' Meek
Charles Larken Meek was born on November 16, 1943, to Joseph Meek and Ruth (Rowe) Meek in Linn Creek, Missouri, and passed away January 5, 2013, at Harry Hynes Hospice in Wichita, Kansas. Chuck spent his early childhood in Northeast Kansas in the town of Lyndon, later moving to live with relatives after the passing of his father. He moved to Hutchinson, Kansas, in the early 1970's where he met Charlotte Prilliman whom he married on February 12, 1971. Chuck and Charlotte lived and worked in Hutchinson, until Chuck was transferred to Tulsa in 1974, where his love of cooking turned into attending and graduating from Culinary School, then teaching for a while at the school before accepting the position of Executive Chef at the Country Club in Winfield, Kansas, in 1994. At the end of 1995, Chuck was offered and accepted the position of Executive Chef at a country club in Columbia, Missouri. In the later years of his career, Chuck worked in the Secretary of State's Office in Jefferson City, Missouri, retiring in 2007 to help take care of his ailing wife.
In 2010 Chuck and Charlotte fulfilled a long time dream of purchasing a home in Protection and moving back to Charlotte's home town, which quickly became Chuck's hometown as well. He was very proud to have been appointed as a City Councilman in June of 2012.
In addition to his parents, Chuck is preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Mary Prilliman Meek on April 21, 2012, a sister, Mary Alice Irey, brothers Robert Clayton Paul and James Harrison Meek , his stepfather Wilbur C. Paul as well as 1 niece and 2 nephews. He is survived by a brother, Joseph "Lewis" Meek (Lora Lee) of Osage City, KS and 4 sisters, Linda Moore of MO, Sandra Young of CA, Judy Lake (Raymond) of St George, KS and Patty Bailey (David) of Lyndon, KS, along with 29 nieces and nephews, 46 great nieces and nephews and 21 great, great nieces and nephews.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, Coldwater, KS. Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, at Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, Coldwater, KS. Services will be Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Protection Christian Church with Pastor Brandon Hagins officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the Family and Chuck requested any memorials to be given to The Protection Beautification Project, Protection Venture Grocery, Protection Christian Church or Protection Baptist Church in care of Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, P.O. Box 417, Coldwater, KS 67029.
