Charles Emery Nielsen, 72, passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2015, at Peabody Health and Rehab in Peabody, KS. Born November 11, 1943, in Wichita, KS, he was the only child of Emery Howard and Ella Wallingford (Baker) Nielsen. He was a rancher in southwestern Kansas, and a long term resident of Comanche County, living in the Wilmore, KS area for many years. He attended the First Christian Church in Coldwater, KS.
He was born in Wichita, KS on November 11, 1943 and as a child moved with his family from Wichita, first to Great Bend, KS, then to Tulsa, OK and finally to Wheatridge, CO, where he received his secondary education and spent the majority of his youth and mid-life years.
He attended Southwestern College in Winfield, KS, and completed his bachelor's degree from Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, OK. As a young man he showed a passion for conservative politics, and was honored to attend the Republican National Convention as a national representative of the Young Republicans.
Charlie was a man of many interests, deeply interested in politics, farming economics, aerospace technology, propulsion, chemistry, energy production, and many other diverse technologies. He was famous among his family and friends for his prodigious appetite and wondrously inventive ideas. He was a man ahead of his time in many ways, and lived to see the realization of several of his concepts.
He is survived by an aunt, Mildred Baker of Etna, CA and numerous cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his many other aunts and uncles.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 23, 2016, at Crown Hill Cemetery in Coldwater, KS, with Andrew Evans presiding.
