Charlotte Ann Girk, 82, passed away Friday, August 21, 2026, at Southwind At Spearville, in Spearville, KS. Born January 24, 1944, in Stillwater, OK, she was the daughter of James and Elizabeth Mae (Caldwell) Braswell.
Charlotte graduated from C.E. Donart High School in Stillwater, OK, in 1962 and received a bachelor’s degree in business education from Oklahoma State University in 1966. She taught school in Selman, OK, where she met Gary Girk of Protection, KS. On June 8, 1968, she married Gary Wallace Girk in Stillwater, OK and they made their home in Protection, KS.
Charlotte was a homemaker and an educator, working for U.S.D. #300 as a library aide and I.T.V. Facilitator for many years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Protection, KS, where she served as church treasurer for many years. Other memberships include: Beta Sigma Phi; Mother’s Club; and she was Coordinator for American Red Cross Blood Drives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gary Girk, on October 24, 2019. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one sister: Bonnie Evans; and three brothers-in-law: Gary Crosthwait, Darrel Girk, and Nyle Girk.
She is survived by one daughter: Gari-Ann Stein (Kevin) of Spearville, KS; one son: Logan Girk (Lisa) of Protection, KS; six grandchildren: Kaden Stein (Paige Harding), Kyler Stein (Peyton), Kolby Stein (Paige), Garrett Girk, Gage Girk (Bailey), and Gentry Girk; two great-grandchildren: Danni and Paxton; one sister: Linda Crosthwait; one brother: Jim Braswell (Tammy); brothers and sisters-in-law: James Evans, Ross Girk (Lisa), Nyla Sherman (Kent), Terena Girk, and Karen Girk; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Calling Times are from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 25, 2026 at Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, Coldwater, KS.
Funeral Service is at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at the First Baptist Church in Protection, KS, with Pastor Roddy Arnold presiding.
Burial will follow the funeral service at Protection Cemetery in Protection, KS.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Protection First Baptist Church, Southwind At Spearville, or Comanche County Hospital Capital Campaign in care of Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, P.O. Box 417, Coldwater, KS 67029.
