Darrell Leon Smith

Darrell Leon Smith, 73, passed away Monday, August 1, 2011, at Northwest Medical Center in Springdale, Arkansas. Born July 21, 1938, near Coldwater, Kansas, he was the son of Robert Darrell Smith and Alta (Goodale) Smith.
He attended Coldwater Grade School and graduated from Coldwater High School in 1956. He received a Bachelor's Degree in History Education from Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, Oklahoma and a Master's Degree in Education from Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado.
During his life he worked as a high school history teacher, football coach, principal, and superintendent for many different schools including: South Haven, Kansas; Buena Vista, Colorado; Cortez, Colorado; Pratt, Kansas; and Sargent, Colorado. After retiring, he moved to Prairie Grove, Arkansas.
He married Cherry Ann Baker in Wilmore, Kansas. She died on July 6, 2003. He later married Billie Latta at Prairie Grove, Arkansas. She died in December of 2010.
In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by his parents and one brother: C.J. Smith.
He is survived by one son: Kelly Dean Smith and his wife Cherese Lea of Ozark, Arkansas; one daughter: Kami Diane Stackhouse of Buena Vista, Colorado; and one grandson: Joah Kelly Smith.

Funeral service is at 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 5, 2011, at the United Methodist Church in Coldwater, Kansas, with Rev. Gary Merritt presiding.
Burial will follow the funeral service at Wilmore Cemetery in Wilmore, Kansas.
