Donald D "Don" McMillin
The late Frank K. and G. Alice (Mathias) McMillin resided in Comanche County, KS, north of Coldwater, when they welcomed their first born, Donald D, to their home May 15, 1929. Don attended Coldwater Schools and graduated from Coldwater High School on his birthday in 1947. He spent his summers working various jobs in town and on farms. In 1949, he graduated from Pratt Junior College. He was attending Kansas State University when he was called to serve his country. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea.
He married Norma Jean Hendrix on February 21, 1953. They welcomed Frances Joy "Becky" (Alan) Schweitzer, Glen Ray (Marsha Ridgway), and Chad Mathias (Pamela Richardson) to their home.
Don was a lifetime church member and answered the call to serve anytime he was needed. He was a member of the Protection First Christian Church. He was a Masonic Lodge member for more than 50 years, served on the Pioneer Lodge Board, was a Protection City Council Member and Mayor, and was one of the first Comanche County E.M.T. He enjoyed farming and construction work in the Comanche County area. His greatest interest was watching his children grow as he guided them.
Death occurred at his home in Pratt, KS, on Monday, March 12, 2012.
Those who will miss his smile and quiet manner are his wife: Jean; daughter: Becky; sons: Glen and Chad; granddaughter: Lindsay (Paul) Saylor; grandson: Tanner; step-grandchildren: Christopher and Hollie; sister: Kathleen (Bob) Unruh; brother: Kermit (Carolyn) McMillin; and Aunt Marie Mathias Dunn.
Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, at Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home in Coldwater, KS (FAMILY WILL GREET FRIENDS FROM 5-6) Funeral service is at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 17, 2012, at the First Christian Church in Protection, KS, with Andrew Evans presiding. Burial will follow the funeral service at Crown Hill Cemetery in Coldwater, KS.
