Obituary

Donald "Don" Dean Parcel, 86, went to his Heavenly Mansion on January 26, 2023, after a short illness at Piedmont Hospital in Augusta, GA.

Funeral services were conducted February 2, 2023 at the Grace United Methodist Church in North Augusta, SC.

Don was born January 19, 1937 and lived six miles west of Coldwater, KS.  He was the youngest of three children born to Melvin and Lucy Parcel.

He went to grade and high school in Coldwater.  He was active in 4-H Club and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Coldwater.

As a teenager he worked with his father and older brother, Daniel, on their farms.  They baled hay for neighboring farmers.

Donald attended Kansas State University, where he met the love of his life, Mae Lynn Berg.  They were married August 9, 1958, in Meriden, KS.  After completing college with a B.S. Degree in Horticulture, they moved to Oklahoma City, OK.  Don became the Superintendent of the Twin Hills Golf and Country Club where they remained for 20 years.  Two children were born and raised in Oklahoma City: Donna and Dan.

Donald retired after 37 years working as a Golf Course Superintendent in Oklahoma City; Plano, TX; Scottsdale, AZ; back to Texas; and then Hilton Head Island, SC.

Donald and Mae moved to North Augusta, SC to be in semi-retirement near their grandchildren; Stephanie, Jeffery, and Allison.

He volunteered at church and Meals on Wheels.  He enjoyed his garden, watching grass grow, taking care of all the flowers, etc.  He enjoyed trying to do carpenter projects.

His survivors include his wife of 64 years: Mae B. Parcel; daughter: Donna Johnson (Craig) of Aiken, SC; son: Dan Parcel of Oklahoma City, OK; three grandchildren: Stephanie Morris (Caleb) of North Augusta, SC, Jeffery Johnson of Las Vegas, NV, and Allison Johnson of Spartanburg, SC; five great-grandchildren: Edgar, Steffanie, and Cristian of Las Vegas, NV and Caroline and Jack of North Augusta, SC; a niece: Deanna (Parcel) Blake (Bill) and family of Coldwater, KS; cousin: Pat Dunn and families of Coldwater, KS; cousin: Jerry Sweeney and families of Brookings, SD; lifelong childhood friend: Gus Harper and families of Castle Rock, CO; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother: Daniel Owen Parcel and his wife Bonnie Parcel; one sister: Maxine Violet Sweeney Neas and husband Gene Neas; and nephew: Duane Owen Parcel.

Service will be held at the First Christian Church in Coldwater, KS on Thursday, February 9, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. (in case of cold weather).  Burial services follow at the Crown Hill Cemetery in Coldwater, KS, with Jeff Blundell presiding.
