E. Arlene Dorsey Butts Wait

Edna Arlene Dorsey was born April 30, 1928 to Charles Duvall and Georgia Marie (Funk) Dorsey in Protection, Ks. She went to be with the Lord on January 14, 2012. She had been praying the Lord would call her home. She was the third of six children born to Charles and Marie. Bobbie Marie (Argie) Thrall was the first-born followed by Doris Anne (David) Leeper, E. Arlene, Charla Mae (Jim) Reeder, John Duvall (Judy) Dorsey, and Elaine Nadine (Robert) McPhail. They moved to Omaha, Nebraska while Arlene was still young and lived there until she was in the fourth grade when the family moved back to Protection. They lost their father Charles soon after moving back, but Marie was determined to keep the family together and she did. All the children graduated from Protection High School with Arlene graduating with the class of 1946.
On October 12, 1946, Arlene married returning veteran Raymond Butts and they moved to the Butts family farm southwest of Protection. They enjoyed 47 years of marriage and raised their three children, Jon Raymond, Tonya Marie, and Kelly Ray, on the farm. Raymond preceded her in death on December 5, 1993.
She married Merle Wait on May 15, 2004, and enjoyed the love and friendship of his four children and their families for the remainder of her life.
She loved gardening, reading, golfing, and being the librarian at the Protection Library for many years. Her memberships include: First Baptist Church, Gideon's Auxiliary, and past member of Order of Eastern Star.
She is survived by her husband: Merle Wait of Protection, Ks.; her children: Jon (Donna) Butts of Palm City, Fla., Tonya (Jay) Connolly of Lafayette, La., and Kelly (Paula) Butts of Olathe, Ks.; sisters: Bobbie Thrall, D.A. Leeper, and Nadine McPhail; brother: John Dorsey; grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Jason (Jodie) Menges and son Jayke; Brandon (Elizabeth) Connolly and sons Caleb, Trevor, and Jayden; Ryan (Julia) Butts; Ashley (Erik) Weaver and daughter Elle; Adam (Tara) Butts and children Sydnie, Nathanial, and Peyton; Roger (Bobbi) Butts; Karlee Butts and Lindsey Butts; step grandchildren: Jeff (Gretchen) Connolly, Jeanelle Connolly (Greg) Seals, Alexa and Corinne Savage.
In addition to her husband, Raymond, she was preceded in death by her parents and one sister: Charla Mae Reeder.

Funeral service is at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 17, 2012, at the First Baptist Church in
Protection, Ks., with Pastor Brandon Hagins presiding. Burial will follow the funeral service at Protection Cemetery in Protection, Ks.
