Obituary

Elmer "Bud" Schultz, 89, passed away Tuesday, November 14, 2017, at Comanche County Hospital in Coldwater, KS. He was born October 11, 1928, to Harry and Emma (Reich) Schultz at their rural home near Coy, OK, the 8th of 11 children, 6 girls and 5 boys.

When Elmer was about 5 years old, the family moved back to Kansas and lived on what was then called the Bodecker place. He attended Bluff Creek Rural School through 8th grade, but didn't get to attend high school as his father needed him to help on the farm. When Elmer was 10 years old, his mother passed away and the family all bonded together to help each other and stay together as a family. When Elmer was 15, Harry moved Gladys, Goldie, Luella, Elmer, Robert, Ruby, and Roy all to Oregon. They were gone about 3 years before moving back to Kansas.

Elmer was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1951 and was stationed in Europe. He returned home in 1953.

On April 29, 1956, Elmer and Mary Sanders were united in marriage and were able to spend 61 years together. On February 10, 1958, they gladly welcomed a son, Greg Allen Schultz into their home.

Elmer was a hard worker and not only farmed his brother Joe's farm, but also worked for Raymond Butts, Myers Wire, Protection Co-op, and the Don Kerstetter Family. Elmer was a member of the Mennonite Church, but attended the Protection First Baptist Church with Mary.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, step-mother: Florence Schultz; brothers: Virgil Schultz of Bakersfield, CA and Joe Schultz of Nampa, ID; and sisters: Gladys Schultz of Nampa, ID, Osie Danielson of Sweet Home, OR, Goldie Anderson of Molalla, OR, Viola Schumacher of Protection, KS, and Luella Stutzman of Lebanon, OR.

He is survived by his wife: Mary Schultz of the home; one son: Greg Schultz (Nancy) of Coldwater, KS; three grandsons: Justin Schultz (Jazmin, Adrian, and Cristian), Brett Schultz, and Chad Schultz (Kaysha); two brothers: Robert Schultz (Sue) of Coldwater, KS and Roy Schultz (Evelyn) of Waxahachie, TX; one sister: Ruby Brown (Lavern) of Great Bend, KS; and numerous other relatives and friends.
