Fred E Webb Jr ,79, passed from this life Friday, April 12, 2013 at the Via Christi Rehabilitation Hospital in Wichita, KS.
Fred was the son of Fred and Esther (Schrock) Webb and was born May 28,1933, at the family home in Protection, KS. He graduated from Protection High School in 1952. In 1953 he married Marlene Filson and to this union was born five children: Gayle, Russell, Mark, Bradley, and Douglas.
After serving two years with the US Army he attended Ft Hays State graduating with a BS and MS in Industrial Arts Education. As a student at Hays he was instrumental in helping organize the Industrial Arts Club and the Industrial Arts Fair. Fred taught at Anthony High School and Butler County Community College. He loved teaching and the many students he worked with including night classes of adult students. While at Butler Fred published two articles in vocational magazines and began a satellite program in Wichita where he taught classes for plant supervisors.
In 1973 Fred developed serious health problems and it became necessary for him to give up his teaching career. In 1975 Fred and Marlene moved their family back to Protection, their hometown. He enjoyed raising Quarter horses and working for various local ranchers and farmers. Fred loved his Lord and his family was very special to him.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; Morris, Bob and Kenneth Webb and a sister, Margaret Sangster.
He is survived by his wife Marlene, daughter Gayle and Terry Oaks, ElDorado, KS, sons: Russell and Nancy Webb, Carl Junction MO, Mark Webb, Wakeeney KS, Brad and Karolyn Webb, High Point NC, and Doug Webb, Wichita. Grandchildren; Jared and Beth Webb, Greensboro NC, Jace and Anjani Webb, Huntersville NC, Rachel and Dustin Lunow, Jenks OK, Craig and Courtney Webb, Joplin MO, Tara and Josh Rogers, Wichita, Shelby Oaks, Shawnee KS, Kristin Oaks, Wichita, Brett Oaks, Vail CO and Kohen Webb. Eight great grandchildren; Ruby, Bradley, Faith, Regan, Emma, Couri, Rylee, and Asher as well as two great grandchildren due this summer.
Funeral service is 2 pm Monday, April 15 at Protection Mennonite Church; pastor Rod Crowell presiding with burial following at Protection Cemetery.
