Jarnagin
September 22, 1937 – June 14, 2022
Gary Richard Jarnagin, 84, passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at the Comanche County Hospital in Coldwater, KS. Born September 22, 1937, at Ashland, KS, he was the son of Richard and Bessie (Nicholas) Jarnagin.
Gary lived in Coldwater, KS, until first grade. In 1944, the family moved to a farm north of Protection, KS. He graduated from Protection High School in 1955, where he played football, basketball, and track.
On December 21, 1956, he married his high school sweetheart, Karen Louise Moore at the Pratt Baptist Church in Pratt, KS. He graduated from Pratt Community College in 1957. He worked for Kansas Fish and Game in Pittsburg, KS, before moving back to Protection and working at Myers Wire Plant. He began farming with Ralph, Karen's father, and enjoyed farming, harvest time, and raising cattle alongside Karen and with the help of his children throughout his life.
Gary was a member of the Protection First Baptist Church, serving as Deacon and Trustee. He was a 50 year member of Masonic Lodge and served on the Protection Volunteer Fire Department.
Gary enjoyed traveling with his family and also enjoyed going hunting and fishing, even trapshooting, archery, and ocean fishing. He loved sports and attending his children and grandchildren's events, as well as many K-State Football Games. His greatest joy was spending time with family and friends, always providing support, encouragement, and hugs to all.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years: Karen Jarnagin of Protection, KS; four children: Tina Brawner of Garden City, KS, Annette Barber (David) of Hays, KS, Kris Jarnagin (Trish) of Lincoln, NE, and Gwen Beeley (Robert) of Lawrence, KS; and nine grandchildren: Candace Brawner, Brooks Barber, Shelby, Cameron, Jameson, Maggie, & Olivia Jarnagin, and Sydni & Madison Beeley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother: Rex Jarnagin; and two sisters: Jeralene "Jerry" Brecheisen and Joyce Comfort.
Calling times are from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, June 16, 2022, at Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, Coldwater, KS.
Funeral service is at 9:30 a.m., Friday, June 17, 2022, at Protection First Baptist Church in Protection, KS, with Pastor Trever Ball presiding.
Burial will follow the funeral service at Protection Cemetery in Protection, KS.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Protection First Baptist Church in care of Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, P.O. Box 417, Coldwater, KS 67029.
