Harold Eugene Chandler
Harold Eugene Chandler, 88, died Thursday, May 21, 2015, at the Protection Valley Manor in Protection, KS. Born August 4, 1926, at Vilas, KS, he was the son of Charles and Sarah (Nelson) Chandler.
Harold was a resident of Protection, KS, moving there in 2004 from Chanute, KS. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy from 1944-1946. He was previously a member of the Otterbein Methodist Church in Chanute, KS, where he volunteered his time and talents to any project asked of him. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Protection, KS.
During his life, he worked for the railroad, in the oil field, running a pumping station, and as a welder and inspector for a manufacturing plant. He also enjoyed fishing.
On August 7, 1947, he married Bertha Marie Clark at Iola, KS. She preceded him in death on May 17, 2012.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers: Clarence, Albert, Foy, and Charles Jr.; and two sisters: Beatrice and MaeBelle.
He is survived by two daughters: Cindy Pence and husband Bill of Lawrence, KS and Kathy Foust and husband Joe of Coldwater, KS; one sister: Edna Morrison of Chanute, KS; three grandchildren: Shawn Pence and wife Susan of Pittsburg, KS, Jennifer Schmeidler and husband John of Arkansas City, KS, and Joshua Foust of Protection, KS; and nine great-grandchildren: Mathew, Ethan, Abigail, Aubrey, Liam, Emelia, Lijah Joe, Hunter, and Hadlie.
The family will greet friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, May 24, 2015, at Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, Coldwater, KS.
Burial is in Protection Cemetery in Protection, KS.
