Harriet Richardson
Harriet Irene Scott Richardson, 96, died Sunday, June 19, 2011, at Cumbernauld Village in Winfield, Ks. She was born July 10, 1914, east of Winfield, Ks., the daughter of Ivan James Scott and Luetta May Ford Scott. She graduated from Winfield High School in 1932 and Southwestern College in 1936.
Harriet taught home economics and related subjects in Utica, Washington, Winfield, Wilmore, and at Southwestern College; then elementary classes in Wilmore, Protection, and Great Bend. She married Royce Clark Richardson on April 19, 1942. He died November 11, 1968.
Harriet retired in 1979, after teaching for 33 years, and returned to living full time in Wilmore. She loved to travel and was active in many service and social groups, including: B.P.W., A.A.U.W., Delta Kappa Gamma, Research Club, Great Bend Retired Teachers' Association, Wesleyan Service Guild, United Methodist Women, and she served on the board for the Coldwater-Wilmore Regional Library. In 1995, she began her second retirement in Winfield at Cumbernauld Village, and participated in Southwestern College events, Grace United Methodist Church, Hospital Auxiliary, Grouse Creek E.H.U., Walnut Valley Quilters, and actively at Cumbernauld Village.
Survivors include one daughter: Mary Rogge and her husband David of Topeka, Ks.; one brother: Warren Scott of rural Winfield, Ks.; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Graveside service and burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at the Wilmore Cemetery in Wilmore, Ks., with Rev. Gary Merritt presiding.
