Helen Christine Scheuerman Carlisle Hackney
Helen Christine Hackney, 88, passed away Wednesday, December 3, 2014, at the Comanche County Hospital in Coldwater, Kansas. She was a long time resident of Comanche County.
Helen was born to Jacob and Leta (Smith) Scheuerman on December 17, 1925, in Hutchinson, Kansas. She was the third of seven children and was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister. Her sister Elnora Unruh still resides in Hutchinson, Kansas. Helen graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1942, married Elwood Christian Carlisle later that year, and moved with him to work on the family ranch in southeast Comanche County. Three children, Ronald, Elwood Clair, and Phillip Lee, were born to this union. Her husband, Elwood, and sons, Ronald, and Phillip, preceded her in death. On September 11, 1976, Helen was united in marriage to Robert D. Hackney in Buttermilk, Kansas. They lived many years on a farm east of Coldwater, Kansas, and later moved to town. Robert continues to live in their town home.
Helen was a member of the Antioch Community Church, the Hospital Auxiliary, and received her 50 year pin in Eastern Star. Helen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was never happier than when she was in the kitchen preparing wonderful meals or special treats for her family and friends. She is remembered and appreciated by her family and friends for her spunk and energy.
Helen is survived by her husband, Robert, her son Clair and wife Susan of rural Coldwater, and step children, Beverly and husband Keith Malone of Coldwater, Bobbi Hackney of Coffeeville, KS, Lane of rural Coldwater, and Robert (Skip)and Jim Hackney of St. Louis, Mn. She will also be greatly missed by grandchildren Randy and Shelby Willis, Chad and Ginger Carlisle, Heath and Shay Stewart, Scott and Keitha Semmel, Ricci and Andy Smarsh, Randi and Jaron Miller, Luke and Richelle Malone, C.J. and Miranda Huck, Casey Huck, Marci and Robert Hauser, Maggi and Michael Sorg, and Harlie Hackney. Helen was also very proud of her 17 great grandchildren who loved their "Great Gram".
Funeral service is at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 9, 2014, at Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home in Coldwater, KS, with Pastor Woody Wilhelm and John Paul presiding. Burial will follow the funeral service at Crown Hill Cemetery in Coldwater, KS.
