Helen Mae Metzger

Helen Mae Metzger, 94, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2013, at her residence near Wilmore, KS. She was born July 7, 1918, at the Booth farm in Kiowa County, KS, the daughter of Henry and Bessie (Bell) Booth. She attended Booth Country School, then graduated from Wilmore High School in 1938.
Helen married August Metzger on May 4, 1943 in Pratt, KS. After his discharge from the U.S. Army, they made their home on a farm west of Wilmore where her grandparents, John and Martha Bell homesteaded in 1883. She continued to live there until her death.
To this union three children were born: Nancy Ann, Mary Jane, and Charles Henry. Helen Mae enjoyed being a farm wife and mother. She continued to be active in the operation of the farm with her son until her death.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wilmore, and later became a member of the Coldwater Christian Church. She was a lifetime member of the Order of Eastern Star. She enjoyed quilting and gave each of her children and grandchildren a quilt. One of her favorite pastimes was hosting a monthly card party.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers: George Wayne, John, and Charles; a sister: Florence; and a special friend: Virgil Scherich.
She is survived by her children: Nancy Zimmerman and her husband Alfred, Mary Jane Spurgeon and her husband Michael, and Chuck Metzger and his wife Jill; Grandchildren and Great-grandchildren: Dallas Morton and wife Kay Dawne and children Lexi and Derek, Travis Morton, Heather Hice and husband Jareb and children Quinton and Mallary, Christopher Metzger, A.J. Zimmerman and wife Kacee and children Colter, Kylian, and Rylin. She was also proud to claim David and Andrea Willard as grandchildren. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday (Family Will Be Present From 5-7) at Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, Coldwater, KS. Funeral service is at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home in Coldwater, KS, with Andrew Evans presiding.
Burial will follow the funeral service at Wilmore Cemetery in Wilmore, KS.
