Howard Lynn Monroe, 78, passed away Thursday, March 10, 2022, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS. Born April 11, 1943, at Chetopa, KS, he was the son of James Albert and Hazel Decima (Collins) Monroe.
Howard was nearly a lifetime resident of Comanche County, KS, moving there when he was five. He attended Wilmore Schools and Coldwater High School. He worked as a Road Grader Operator for the people of Comanche County for 48 years. Howard was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
On June 7, 1969, he married Mary Huffman at Coldwater, KS.
He is survived by his wife: Mary Monroe of Wilmore, KS; six children: Cody Monroe (Ashley) of Wilmore, KS, Crystalynn Monroe of Protection, KS, Casey Monroe of Pratt, KS, Clint Monroe (Chelsie) of Protection, KS, Cale Caldwell of Pratt, KS, and Caleb Monroe (Jackie) of Gypsum, KS; one brother: Mike Monroe (Penny) of Salina, KS; two sisters: June Vierthaler of Paris, AR and Carol Clark (Vernon) of Garden City, KS; nine grandchildren with one on the way: Tory Maris, Gracyn Monroe, Cayden Caldwell, Kashton Caldwell, Kyler Caldwell, Jacob Caldwell, Jonathan Caldwell, Kaitlyn Caldwell, and Eli Monroe; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings: Earl Monroe, Delphia Schauf, Jim Monroe, and Jerry Monroe.
Calling times are from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. (Family Will Be Present From 5-7 p.m.), Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, Coldwater, KS.
Funeral service is at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 17, 2022, at First Christian Church in Coldwater, KS, with Pastor Trever Ball presiding.
Burial will follow the funeral service at Wilmore Cemetery in Wilmore, KS.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Shriners Children's Hospital in care of Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, P.O. Box 417, Coldwater, KS 67029.
