Jack Lee Fitzwater, 76, passed away Saturday, August 21, 2021 at Comanche County Hospital in Coldwater, KS. Born September 26, 1944 at Protection, KS, he was the son of Garland John and Irene Christine (Ditch) Fitzwater.
Jack graduated from Protection High School in 1962 and received a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Wichita State University in 1968. On May 31, 1969, he married Mary Mattoon at Wichita, KS. He was an industrial arts teacher at Flint Hills High School for two years. In 1978, they moved back to Protection to help on the family farm. In 1986, Jack began his work as an insurance loss control manager, during which time they lived in several cities in the Midwest, including Des Moines, IA. In 2004, Jack retired and moved back to the family farm near Protection, KS.
Jack was a lifetime member of the Protection United Methodist Church and was a member and president of Jay Cee's.
He is survived by his wife: Mary Fitzwater of Protection, KS; one son: Kendal Fitzwater of Protection, KS; one daughter: Amy Baker (Doug) of Protection, KS; two grandchildren: Hailey and Sophie Baker; one brother: John Fitzwater (Dixie) of Olathe, KS; four sisters: Carol Petty (Jim) of Pryor, OK, Betty Jo Maris of Protection, KS, Sue Page of Protection, KS, and Sandy Hoffman (Roger) of Buttermilk, KS; a sister-in-law: Janet Fitzwater (Charley Wooden) of Enid, OK; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother: Bill Fitzwater; one sister: Nona Fitzwater; two brothers-in-law: Marvin Maris and Bruce Page; and one sister-in-law: LaRetta Fitzwater.
Calling times are from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 24, 2021 (Family Will Greet Friends From 5-7 p.m.) at Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, Coldwater, KS.
Graveside service is at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at Protection Cemetery in Protection, KS, with Pastor Rick Branson presiding.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to American Diabetes Association or Protection Valley Manor in care of Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, P.O. Box 417, Coldwater, KS 67029
