Janice Kay Miller

Janice Kay Miller, 81, passed away Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at Protection Valley Manor in Protection, KS. Born July 23, 1944, at Ashland, KS, she was the daughter of Lloyd Henry and Bernice Loue (Harbaugh) Hackney.

Janice was a lifetime resident of Protection, KS. She attended Protection Schools and graduated from Protection High School in 1962. She attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, OK and Fort Hays State University in Hays, KS.

On May 27, 1966, she married Tom O. Miller at Protection, KS. He survives.

Janice worked as a secretary for USD #300 and was an E.M.T. for Comanche County Ambulance Service for many years. She was a member of Protection Christian Church in Protection, KS and was a member of Order of Eastern Star.

She is survived by her husband: Tom Miller of Protection, KS; two daughters: Sonya Fort (Joel) of Springfield, MO and Allison Bayne of Protection, KS; one brother: Gene Hackney (Kerry) of Protection, KS; one sister: Marsha Oursler of North Carolina; six grandchildren: Eli Fort (Kim), Ethan Fort (Brooklyn), Reagan Carlin (Jonah), Ryan Fort (Josie), Taylor Waters (Karson), and Jack Fort; and four great-grandchildren: Keenan, Knox, Bodie, and Kollins.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Celebration of Life Service is at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 21, 2026, at Protection Christian Church in Protection, KS, with Pastor Rusty Westerfield presiding. Inurnment will follow the service at Protection Cemetery in Protection, KS.
