Obituary

Jeanne Webb, 88, passed away Sunday, October 4, 2015, at the Comanche County Hospital in Coldwater. She was born on her father's 29th birthday, October 13, 1926, on the Valley View Ranch north of Protection. The daughter of Leo I. and Edna (Williams) Williams, she was a homemaker and retired grocery store clerk.
When Jeanne was five years old, her parents moved to what was known as the "Thornton Place," four miles northwest of Protection. Jeanne attended Edgewood country school just north of her home for five years. She completed grade school in Protection and graduated from Protection High School in 1944.
After high school she was a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell in the house that is the second one north of the Protection United Methodist Church. She had an apartment in the basement of Rosie Johnson's rooming house (home of Alfred and Nancy Zimmerman today).

On June 3, 1945, she married Kenneth Webb at the Methodist church parsonage in Protection. Jeanne and Kenneth had dated for three years during high school, and with their 67-year marriage, they enjoyed 70 years as a couple.
When Kenneth worked for Pat and Hazel Murphey on their farm northeast of Protection, the newlyweds lived where Jerry Hess now makes his home. For 16 years, beginning in 1949, the Webbs lived on the Valley View Ranch north of Protection where Kenneth was herdsman.
When Kenneth was offered the job of manager for the Comanche County Dairy Herd Improvement Association in 1965, he and Jeanne moved to a home on the northeast edge of Protection. They pastured registered Herefords they had bought from the Ellises on land first settled by Kenneth's grandfather, Oscar Webb, 127 years ago.
In 1968 Jeanne began working for Larry and Mable DePriest at their L&M Grocery in Protection. She retired after undergoing heart surgery in 1989.
Jeanne and Kenneth remodeled an older home east of town across the road from the Webb land in 1979, where she was residing at the time of her death.
She was a member of the Protection United Methodist Church, past member of United Methodist Women, Harmony EHU, Loyal Community Club, PEO Chapter DM, and was a longtime supporter of Comanche County 4-H.

She is survived by one son: Dave Webb of Protection; two daughters: Elaine Gruver and her husband Norval of Independence, Kansas, and Leanne McLeland and husband Larry of Satanta; five grandchildren: Kate Barnes and her husband David of Caldwell; Kurt Tschanz and his wife Julie, Hays; Jill Hendershot and husband Dave, Wichita; Jana Rombeck and husband Terry, Andover; and Lisa Reddout and husband Chris, Bartlesville, Oklahoma; seven great-grandchildren: Ethan Tschanz, Emma Tschanz, Evan Tschanz; Nolan Rombeck, Carly Jeanne Rombeck; Lauren Reddout; and Griffin Hendershot; her sister-in-law Marlene Webb of Protection; and 11 nieces and nephews.
