Jerry L. Allen, 90, passed away December 18, 2020 at the Comanche County Hospital in Coldwater, KS. He was born August 26, 1930, in Coldwater, Kansas and shared a birthday with his father. He was the first-born of six children to Renous and Ruth (Beeley) Allen. Jerry grew up in Coldwater where he was a lifetime resident. In his early years he attended Missouri Valley and Sunnyside Country Schools before graduating from Coldwater High School in 1948. Following high school, he went to Salt City Business College in Hutchinson, KS and shortly after began his career at the Coldwater National Bank. He worked there for a few years before enlisting in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was stationed at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City, OK. He served for 3 years. After his service he returned home and went back to work for the Coldwater National Bank, where he worked for 10 years. Most of his career was spent at the Peoples Bank in Coldwater, KS. During this time, he attended the University of Wisconsin School of Banking in Madison, WI. He later retired from the Peoples Bank after 31 years of service in December 1995.
On June 2, 1963 he married Janis Oyler Allen from Norwich, KS, his wife of 57 years, and they had one son, Brian.
He was a member of the Coldwater First Christian Church, American Legion, Masonic Lodge #295, and former Lions Club. He was actively involved in the community where he held various positions serving as an Elder and the Treasurer for the Coldwater First Christian Church, City Treasurer, and he was on the Board of Directors for the Crown Hill Cemetery as well as the Board of Directors for the Prairie Plaza. He did many other things for his church and the community always finding a way to help others.
He loved his son, daughter-in-law, and grandkids dearly. He really enjoyed going to the ballgames supporting the local teams as well as watching his grandkids when they played. He loved playing golf, his wood-working projects and watching KU Basketball and the Kansas City Chiefs.
He is survived by wife Janis of Coldwater KS, son Brian and wife Lynn of Wichita, KS and two grandchildren Brendan and Brianna both of Wichita, KS, two brothers, Jene and wife Robin of Coldwater, KS and Jimmie and wife Janice of Wichita, KS, one sister Jennie Lenertz and husband Jerry of Coldwater, KS and two sister-in-law's Erma Allen of Coldwater, KS, and Janet Howell of Norwich, KS and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Renous and Ruth Allen of Coldwater, KS, father-in-law and mother-in-law Marshall and Mary Oyler of Norwich, KS , two brothers Jack Allen of Coldwater, KS and Joe Allen of Venice, FL one sister-in-law Karen Allen of Venice, FL and a brother-in-law David Howell of Griffith, IN.
Visitation with family present will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, Coldwater, KS on Monday, December 21, 2020.
A private church service for the family will take place prior to the public graveside service and burial held Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at 11:30 AM at Crown Hill Cemetery in Coldwater, KS, with Pastor Dale Kelley officiating and Virgil White assisting.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Coldwater First Christian Church or the Comanche County Hospital in care of Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, P.O. Box 417, Coldwater, KS 67029.
