Jerry Lee Heft
Jerry Lee Heft, 76, passed away Sunday, June 8, 2014, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS. Born February 20, 1938, at Ashland, KS, he was the son of Doyle and Jessie (Williams) Heft.
Jerry was nearly a lifetime resident of Comanche County, KS, living in Utah for a few years. He attended Fair View, Nauvoo, Tin Top, and C2 Country Schools, graduated from Coldwater High School in 1956, and attended Pratt Juco. Jerry was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving on the U.S.S. Bennington, U.S.S. Ticonderoga, U.S.S. Bon Homme Richard, and U.S.S. Lexington from 1956-1960. He married Joyce Colter on May 18, 1963 in Coldwater, KS. He married Florence Turley on February 14, 1981 in Coldwater, KS.
Jerry worked as a farmer, rancher, and heavy equipment operator during his life. He was the superintendent for the Comanche County Road and Bridge Department for many years. He was a 50 year member of Coldwater Masonic Lodge #295 and was a 32nd Degree Mason. Other memberships include: Order of Eastern Star and Buttermilk Saddle Club.
He is survived by his wife: Florence Heft of Coldwater, KS; one son: James Lee Heft (Loretta) of Coldwater, KS; two daughters: Tammy Michelle Lindsey of Spring Hill, FL and Kelly Renee Cram (Duane) of Riverton, KS; four step-children: Sheryl Houk of Seaside, OR, Richard Houk (Mary) of Strong City, KS, Chris Ellis of Coldwater, KS, and Pat Houk of Strong City, KS; one sister-in-law: Sherrell Heft of Greensburg, KS; seventeen grandchildren: Nathan Heft, Hunter Heft, Erick Lindsey, Andrew Lindsey, Matthew Lindsey, Ashley McElwain, Makenzie Cook, Colby Cram, Joe Boucher', Angela Brown, Richard Houk, Shawn Houk, Tommy Houk, Anthony Stewart, Brandy Stewart, Clayton Houk, and Austin Houk; ten great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother: Dayle Heft.
Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 11, 2014 (Family Will Greet Friends From 6-7) at Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, Coldwater, KS.
Funeral service is at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, June 12, 2014, at the First Christian Church in Coldwater, KS with Andrew Evans presiding. Burial is in the Crown Hill Cemetery in Coldwater, KS, with military honors.
