Obituary

JoAnn Elizabeth Oliver, daughter of Ora and Hilda Houghton, was born November 18, 1935 in Garden City, KS.  She passed from this world on December 6, 2023, at the age of 88.

JoAnn lived on the family farm until the age of 3, when the family moved from the farm into the city of Dighton, KS.  She attended Lane County Schools and graduated from high school with the class of 1953.  She attended Colorado Women's College in Denver, CO and graduated on May 25, 1955.  JoAnn was united in marriage to Robert E. Oliver of Scott City, KS, at the college chapel that day.

They made their home in Scott City, KS.  They raised three daughters: Gwen (Jim) Coberly of Gove, KS, Shaunda (Wade) Vogel of Ness City, KS, and Rachelle (Steve) Hullett of Sugarland, TX.  They were blessed with eight grandchildren: Staci, Callie, Jacee, Kabel, Dakota, Brayden, Hunter, and Hayden; and six great-grandchildren: Caidyn, Ryder, Brogan, Foster, Hudson, and Harlan.  JoAnn loved attending their activities.

Her early years were spent caring for Methodist Camp Lakeside at Scott Lake State Park.  Later they moved back to Scott City and purchased the Drive In Movie Theater.  JoAnn's special hot dog sauce recipe was a favorite among movie goers.  They later purchased Uptown Theater and ran it for several years.  She later worked as office manager for Southwest Savings and Loan.  During this time she was busy raising three girls, was an active member of the United Methodist Church and Circle Group.  She enjoyed gardening, dancing, playing bridge, and the companionship of Libby, her little Yorkie.

JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband: Robert Oliver; and her brother: Waldo Houghton.

A Celebration of Life Service will held at a later time and will be announced when available.

A private family inurnment will be held at Scott County Cemetery in Scott City, KS.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Scott County Arts Council, P.O. Box 51, Scott City, KS 67871 OR Scott County Library, 110 W. 8th Street, Scott City, KS 67871.

THE CELEBRATION OF LIFE SERVICE FOR JOANN OLIVER HAS BEEN POSTPONED DUE TO THE WEATHER.
