John Carson Burt, 89, passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at the Carriage House in Greensburg, KS. Born July 15, 1924, at Coldwater, KS, he was the son of Charles W. and Edith (Waugh) Burt.
John was nearly a lifetime resident of Coldwater, KS, previously living in Dodge City, KS and Woodward, OK. He attended Coldwater Schools and was a veteran of World War II, serving as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942-1946.
John worked as a mechanic and shop foreman for Comanche County Road and Bridge Department for 24 years. He was a 68 year member of Comanche Masonic Lodge #295, serving as Worthy Master in 1969. Other memberships include: Eastern Star; V.F.W.; American Legion; and Coldwater Gun Club.
On July 5, 1944, he married June Sherman at Coldwater, KS. She preceded him in death on August 13, 1975.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one brother: Charles Burt, Jr.
He is survived by two daughters: Mary Brewer of Coldwater, KS and Jean Ann Heerts of Lindsborg, KS; one brother: James K. Burt (LaVonda) of Lancaster, CA; one sister: Harriet Morland of Laverne, OK; seven grandchildren: Chris Cain, John Cain, Elizabeth (Brent) Ashlock, Richard (Rebecca) Brewer, Karin (Jon) Anderson, Michelle Carter, and Amanda Opat; one step-grandchild: Tonia Cook; seventeen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside service is at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at Crown Hill Cemetery in Coldwater, KS, with Bucky Moore presiding.
Burial is in the Crown Hill Cemetery in Coldwater, KS, with full military honors.
