Karen Jean Brumbaugh

Karen Jean Brumbaugh, 73, passed away Friday, June 5, 2026, at Comanche County Hospital in Coldwater, KS. Born July 20, 1952, at Ashland, KS, she was the daughter of Charles Warren Burt, Jr. and Catharine Mary (White) Burt.

Karen was a lifetime resident of Comanche County, KS. She graduated from Coldwater High School in 1970 and attended Dodge City Community College. On August 5, 1972, she married David Lee Brumbaugh. To this union, three children were born: Kelly, Mindy, and Jesse.

Karen worked as a dispatcher for Comanche County early in her life. She was a florist, working at Town & County Floral and later owning and operating Karen’s Korner in Coldwater, KS. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Coldwater, KS, since April 7, 1963. She was a gifted musician, playing the pipe organ at the church for many years.

Karen’s greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed flowers, gardening, rock/fossil hunting, birdwatching, and researching family history.

Karen is survived by one daughter: Mindy Brumbaugh of Scott City, KS; one son: Jesse Brumbaugh (Emily) of Coldwater, KS; two brothers: Chuck Burt of Topeka, KS and Andy Burt of Davenport, IA; one sister: Suzanne Timmer (Kenny) of Wilmore, KS; twelve grandchildren: Christopher Campbell, David Charles Brumbaugh, Jacob Smith, Jayden Smith, Damion Brumbaugh, Keegan Brumbaugh, D.J. DeBusk, Kalee Brumbaugh, Jordyn Brumbaugh, Elliot Brumbaugh, Oakley Brumbaugh, and Wyatt Brumbaugh; six great-grandchildren; two aunts: Harriet (Burt) Moreland and Harriet White; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son: Kelly William Brumbaugh; one brother: Mike Burt and his wife Glennda; and her husband: Dave Brumbaugh.

Visitation With Family Present is from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, June 14, 2026, at Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, Coldwater, KS.

Celebration of Life Service is at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 15, 2026, at Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, Coldwater, KS. Inurnment will follow the service at Crown Hill Cemetery, Coldwater, KS.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Karen Brumbaugh Memorial Fund in care of Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, P.O. Box 417, Coldwater, KS 67029.
