Lance Rankin Riner

Lance Rankin Riner, 72, passed away Tuesday, November 4, 2014, at the Comanche County Hospital in Coldwater, KS. Born April 16, 1942, at Ashland, KS, he was the son of Nevan and Faye Evelyn (Minor) Riner.
Lance graduated from Protection High School in 1960, where he participated in football, track, and was trainer for the basketball team. He played trombone in the band, sang in the choir, and was in many other activities. He attended Fort Hays State and went to Welding College in Chicago, IL. Lance held a lot of jobs over the years including: working with his Dad in the hay business; Lane Myers Co.; pipeline crew welding; bartending; salesman; working for his sister and brother-in-law in Hays, KS at their prepress printing and sales shop; and selling insurance, later owning and operating Lance Riner Insurance in Protection, KS. He was a member of the Protection United Methodist Church; Protection Masonic Lodge; Protection Lion's Club; and Protection Golf Course.
On September 26, 1965, he married Connie Lindsay. They were later divorced. On July 11, 1983, he married Bille Baird at Las Vegas, NV. She survives.

He is survived by his wife: Bille Riner of Protection, KS; one sister: Lana Barnes and her husband Don of Mesa, AZ; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.


Memorial service is at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 8, 2014, at the United Methodist Church in Protection, KS, with Rev. Jessie Zimmerman presiding.
