IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Larry Dean
Hatfield
February 3, 1943 – April 26, 2022
Larry Dean Hatfield "LD" age 79, peacefully passed away at home in Wichita Kansas, April 26, 2022. He was born on February 3, 1943 in Wichita, KS to Lydia Elizabeth and Charles Hatfield, who have preceded him in death. He graduated from Coldwater High School in 1961, attended Fort Hays State University and went on to The Dallas Institute Gupton Jones for Mortuary Science to receive his associate degree. In Coldwater, Ks, he was a funeral director and embalmer at Hatfield/Prusa Funeral Home, worked at the family furniture store and then opened Hatfield Chevrolet Oldsmobile where he became the youngest new car dealer in the US. With the flip of a coin, he moved to Colorado Springs, CO where he spent many years running a dealership, owning land and enjoying the mountains with his girls. He met Ali and moved back to Kansas where he opened LD Hatfield Auto Sales which he ran for almost 40 years. He also shared and operated a dealership in Coldwater KS after moving back to Wichita, and fondly remembered the quality time it gave him with his parents.
Larry and Ali were blessed to share 41 years of marriage. His focus was his family, and he was most proud to be a father, grandfather, husband, and trusted friend. He was a beautiful singer, enjoyed playing various instruments, created art, and was an exceptional storyteller. He was larger than life. His charismatic personality, deep voice, and contagious laugh easily filled a room. He had a heart that was bigger than he, and at 6'4" that is saying something. He loved his wife with all of his soul, supported his children in all business and life adventures and was the forever Santa to the grandchildren. There was no better hand to hold, shoulders to hug, or lap to sit on. He leaves us with decades of beautiful memories and hearts steadied by the love of his own.
Larry is survived by his wife, Ali Hatfield of Wichita Ks; and his children, Lisa Pixley and husband Spencer; Colorado Springs, CO, Zena Vincent and husband Darrel; Ogden, UT, Amy Clune- Castaneda and husband Tom; Las Vegas, NV, Sumer Crane and husband Ian; Wichita, KS, Travis Hatfield and wife Cassandra; Wichita, KS; siblings Lou Ann Prusa; Wichita, KS, Gay Lyn Unruh and husband Roger; Wilmore, KS, grandchildren, Audrey, Robert, Lance, Kyla, Eysley, Levon, Sunday, Margot and great grandchild, Charles.
A celebration of life is scheduled Sunday, May 22nd 12pm, at Douglas Social 2518 E Douglas Ave, Wichita, KS 67214. Of course, food and storytelling will be the focus as Larry felt no get-together was complete without the two.
