Larry Richard Petty

Larry Richard Petty, 77, passed away Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at his residence south of Protection, KS.  Born July 4, 1948, in Ashland, KS, he was the son of Charles and Anna (Mehl) Petty.

Larry attended Paruna, OK Country School, graduated from Protection High School in 1966, and received a bachelor's degree in education from Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, OK.

On September 28, 1968, he married Diane Marie Webster at the Protection Christian Church in Protection, KS.  They spent 57 years together, working together and enjoying God's countryside.

Larry student taught at Protection High School; he then taught industrial arts and coached junior high and high school in Bucklin, KS.  In 1972, they purchased a farm home 11 miles south of Protection, KS, near the Kansas/Oklahoma state line, and 7 miles north of his parents' farm.  This was a great place for him to spend the rest of his life; close to the farm he grew up on.

Larry was a farmer and rancher.  He was a member and elder at the Protection Christian Church in Protection, KS.  He enjoyed golfing and was a member of the Protection Golf Course.  He was the announcer for Protection football games for many years.

He is survived by his wife: Diane Petty of Protection, KS; two sons: Brandon Petty (Lana) of Buffalo, OK and Clint Petty (Ashley) of Protection, KS; seven grandchildren: Trinity, Shaylin, Jett, Judd, Saige, Sloan, and Jaide Petty; and two great-grandchildren: Jayton and Augustus.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother: Jim Petty.

Calling times are from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 5, 2025 at Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, Coldwater, KS.

Funeral service is at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, November 6, 2025 at Protection Christian Church in Protection, KS, with Pastor Rusty Westerfield presiding.

Burial will follow the funeral service at Protection Cemetery in Protection, KS.
