Leroy Matthew McGinnis
Leroy Matthew McGinnis, 86, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2013, at The Wheatlands Health Care Center in Kingman, KS. Born April 12, 1927, in Sun City, KS, he was the son of Leslie and Pearl (Yandell) McGinnis.
Leroy grew up and attended school in Globe, AZ. He was a resident of Kingman, KS, moving there in 1975, previously living in Greensburg, KS and Coldwater, KS. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy from 1944-1945.
He married Barbara Barbour on May 27, 1948 in Booneville, AR. She survives.
Leroy worked as a meat cutter for White's Foodliner in Coldwater, KS and Kingman, KS and also worked for KP&L. He was a member of the Coldwater Assembly of God Church in Coldwater, KS and Covenant Assembly of God Church in Kingman, KS. Other memberships include: American Legion; Lions' Club; and R.V. MAPS.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters: Mildred Smith, Sathena Page, and Freda McGinnis.
He is survived by his wife: Barbara McGinnis of Kingman, KS; one daughter: Linda Headings and husband David of Hutchinson, KS; three sons: Ronald McGinnis and wife Donilu of Scappoose, OR, Leslie McGinnis and wife Betsy of Fountain Hills, AZ, and Kenneth McGinnis and wife Jacque of Kingman, KS; one sister: Betty Luna of California; fifteen grandchildren: Donilee McGinnis, David McGinnis, Jason McGinnis, Stephanie McGinnis, Andrea Schrag and husband Kevin, Erika Headings, Jennifer Graber and husband Jake, Jesse McGinnis, JoAnna Wooten and husband Geoff, Jared McGinnis, Juli Girard and husband Kent, Joseph McGinnis, Jordyn McGinnis, Rob Rogers and wife Christine, and Christie Sikorski and husband Steve; and sixteen great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 8, 2013 at Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, Coldwater, KS. Graveside service is at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 8, 2013, at Crown Hill Cemetery in Coldwater, KS, with Pastor Bryan Parker presiding.
Memorial service is at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, June 8, 2013, at Covenant Assembly of God Church in Kingman, KS, with Pastor Bryan Parker presiding.
