LeRoy Zielke, 85, passed away Monday, April 25, 2016 at South Wind Home in Pratt, KS.
Born January 5, 1931, in a dugout home south of Coldwater, KS, he was the son of Frank and Marcella (Fields) Zielke.
LeRoy was a lifetime resident of the Coldwater, KS area. He graduated from Coldwater High School in 1948. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1950-1952. On October 16, 1953, he married Pauline Lasarsky at Coldwater, KS. She survives.
LeRoy was an active member of the Coldwater United Methodist Church. He was elected to membership of American Builder Advisory Board in 1961 and 1962 and was named a JayCee Outstanding Young Man in 1966. He was Municipal Judge in Coldwater starting in 1965 and served for over 50 years.
While in the Marine Corps, LeRoy received a great deal of experience in construction and put that knowledge to good use. Through the years he gained a respected reputation as a Building Contractor. Some examples of his work include: Christian Church and Parsonage, Assembly of God Church, Comanche Café and Motel, and masonry work at the Pioneer Lodge. He also worked as a farmer, and planted thousands of acres of CRP grass and harvested native grass for seed.
He is survived by his wife: Pauline Zielke of Coldwater, KS; three daughters: Nina Mattox (Robin) of Stillwater, OK, Karen Thomas (Mark) of Stillwater, OK, and Robbie Uhl (Mike) of WaKeeney, KS; one son: John Zielke (Cindy) of Topeka, KS; one brother: Charles Zielke of Decatur, TX; one sister: Wanda Hatcher (Bill) of Hutchinson, KS; eleven grandchildren; and twenty-two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister-in-law: Dorothy Zielke.
Calling times are from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, April 28, 2016 (Family Will Greet Friends From 5-7) at Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, Coldwater, KS.
Funeral service is at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 29, 2016, at the United Methodist Church in Coldwater, KS, with Pastor Juan Espinoza and Gary Moore presiding. Burial will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery in Coldwater, KS, with full military honors.
