Lyman "Bud" W. McGee, 79, departed this life on Thursday, June 15, 2017, at home with his wife in Protection, Kansas.
Lyman was born on January 13, 1938, in his childhood home in Protection, Kansas. He was born the fourth child of seven to Dwight McGee and Mary (Wilson) McGee.
Lyman was raised and attended school in Protection and graduated in 1956. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, basketball, football, and working in his father's hardware store, McGee Supply. The McGee family attended church at the United Methodist Church in Protection, Kansas. After high school, he attended Pratt Junior College, K-State University and Emporia Teacher's College where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration in 1963.
On September 2, 1961, he married Kathleen "Kathy" Unruh in Protection, Kansas. To this union two daughters were born: Pamela Kay on July 18, 1963 and Julie Ann on April 19, 1965. Lyman was a proud and loving father.
Lyman took pride in and enjoyed years of work at The Coleman Company, Honeywell, and L&M Construction, a construction and remodeling company in which he owned for 19 years.
Lyman's family meant the world to him. He was a loving and kind husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He enjoyed gardening, restoring cars, wood working, fishing, motorcycle riding, tinkering in the garage and sitting on the front porch. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his grandkids. He was a positive influence on his daughters and grand children who could always rely on him.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 56 years, Kathleen; daughter Pamela Frederickson of Protection, Kansas; daughter Julie Baker and husband Terry of Wichita, Kansas; seven grandchildren: Dallin Frederickson, Mikel (Frederickson) Robinson, Kestyn Frederickson, Maureen Baker, Sean Baker, Michael Baker, and Whitnee Baker; six great grandchildren: Madallin Frederickson, Zoey Frederickson, Gunner Frederickson, Wyatt Frederickson, Alyssa Baker, and Zoey Baker.
Other survivors include: sister, JoAnn Daily of Loveland, Colorado; sister Nancy Hoffmans and husband Carl of Emporia, Kansas; brother Gary McGee and wife Viva of Wichita, Kansas; and brother David McGee and wife Marcia of Valley Center, Kansas; and a host of loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Garth McGee and Lyndol McGee; and one brother in law, George Daily.
Memorial service is at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 21, 2017, at Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, Coldwater, KS, with Pastor Brandon Hagins presiding.
