Richard Lynn German, 72, passed away Friday, September 1, 2023 at the Comanche County Hospital in Coldwater, KS. Born January 4, 1951 at the Comanche County Hospital in Coldwater, KS, he was the son of Walter Gene and Jerry (Jarnagin) German.
Lynn graduated from Garden City High School in 1969, where he was captain of the football team. He received Firefighter Training from KU and worked for many years as a fireman/heavy equipment operator. A long time resident of Coldwater, KS, Lynn was a fireman serving the communities of Dodge City, KS, Hutchinson, KS, Beaver County, OK, Garden City, KS, and Comanche County, KS. He was a member of the Protection Christian Church in Protection, KS.
On August 19, 1972, he married Margaret Dome at Dodge City, KS. To this union three children were born: Tracee, Cody, and Amie. On September 2, 2000, he married Penny Forpahl at Wichita, KS.
Lynn is survived by his wife: Penny German of Coldwater, KS; three children: Tracee Bartley (Nathan) of Dodge City, KS, Cody German (Candy) of Kinsley, KS, and Amie Henbest (Jeremy) of Burdett, KS; four step-children: Scot Salsberry of Blanchard, OK, Chad Salsberry (Regina) of Blanchard, OK, Sean Salsberry (Randi) of Moore, OK, and Stephanie Turowski (Kevin) of Bennington, KS; one sister: Jana Ulrich (Dick) of Garden City, KS; one brother: Ron German of Garden City, KS; twelve grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives; and his beloved dog: Cookie.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson: Matthew "Rocket" Salsberry.
Calling times are from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 5, 2023 (Family Will Be Present From 5-7) at Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, Coldwater, KS.
Celebration of Life Service is at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at Protection Christian Church, Protection, KS, with Pastor Rusty Westerfield and Lynn's Nephew, Pastor Chad Ulrich presiding.
Burial will follow the service at Crown Hill Cemetery in Coldwater, KS.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Protection Christian Church, Comanche County Fire Department, Hutchinson Community College Fire Science Program, or Reflection Living Adult Care Home in care of Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, P.O. Box 417, Coldwater, KS 67029.
