Mary Lee Harris, 83, passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2020, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS. Born July 9, 1937, at Lawrence, KS, she was the daughter of Dale Idris and Rosa Lee (Howe) Powell.
Mary Lee was a longtime resident of Protection, KS, moving there in 1959 from Hays, KS. She graduated from Hays High School in 1955 and attended Fort Hays State University.
On June 8, 1956, she married David Lee Harris at Hays, KS. He preceded her in death on August 14, 2010.
Mary Lee was a member of the Protection United Methodist Church; United Methodist Women; Order of Eastern Star; and Chapter DM of the PEO Sisterhood. During her life, she worked as a daycare provider; worked at the Protection Post; was a clerk at Bill's Grocery; was a Certified Med Aide at the Protection Valley Manor; and drove a school bus for the Protection Schools for many years.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a brother: Jack Powell; a granddaughter: Megan Kramer; brother-in-law: Jack Harris; and father and mother-in-law: Rueben and Alice Harris.
She is survived by three children: Marcie Charles (Marc) of Dodge City, KS, Mitchel Harris (Judy) of Ingalls, KS, and Mindy Applegate (Mark) of Montezuma, KS; one sister: Rev. Jean Marie Grabher of Topeka, KS; grandchildren: Maryn Charles of Portland, OR, Cory Kramer of Dodge City, KS, Gabriel Applegate of Lawrence, KS, and Eli Applegate (Brooke) of Cimarron, KS; great-grandchildren: Landon, Allyson, & Brenna Kramer and Andrew & Declan Applegate; brother-in-law: Richard Harris (Sandy) of Minneola, KS; and sister-in-law: Judy Harris of Wichita, KS.
Calling times are from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, July 31, 2020 (Family Will Greet Friends From 5-7 p.m.) at Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, Coldwater, KS.
Funeral service is at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 1, 2020, at Protection United Methodist Church in Protection, KS, with Rev. Jeff Hiers presiding.
Burial will follow the funeral service at Protection Cemetery in Protection, KS.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Comanche County Hospital or South Central Schools Meal and Milk Program in care of Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, P.O. Box 417, Coldwater, KS 67029.
