Obituary

Mary Schultz, 95, passed away Sunday, February 16, 2025 at Comanche County Hospital in Coldwater, KS.  Born February 9, 1930 at a farm south of Protection, KS, she was the daughter of Grover Cleveland and Rebie Pearl (Wilborn) Sanders.  She was welcomed by six brothers: Robert, Ralph, Nelson, Grover, and twins, Roger and Raymond.

Mary was a lifetime resident of Protection, KS.  She attended Pleasant Valley Country School, graduated from Protection High School in 1948, and attended American Business College in Wichita, KS.  After working for the Electrolux and Vornado Fan Corporations, she returned to Protection.

On April 29, 1956, she married Elmer "Bud" Schultz at the old Protection Baptist Church parsonage.  To this union a son, Greg Allen Schultz, was born on February 10, 1958, missing his mother's birthday by one day.

Mary worked for the Powell, Shoemaker, and DePriest Grocery Stores and as a waitress at Sam's Café and Don's Place for many years.  She wrote a weekly article for the Protection Post called "Southwest of Protection", changing the name in 1985 to "Town and Country Chats".  She was a member of Protection First Baptist Church and also Circle of Friends.  She enjoyed her home, her family, and spending time with her grandsons.

Mary is survived by one son: Greg Schultz (Nancy) of Coldwater, KS; three grandsons: Justin Schultz (Ashley) of Guymon, OK, Brett Schultz (Braylyn) of Enid, OK, and Chad Schultz of Protection, KS; five great-grandchildren: Jayden, Maddixx, Daltyn, Cinch, and Lainey; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Her husband preceded her in death on November 14, 2017.  In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and six brothers.

Visitation with Family Present is from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 19, 2025 at Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home in Coldwater, KS.

Funeral Service is at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, February 20, 2025 at First Baptist Church in Protection, KS with Pastor Kris Logsdon presiding.

Burial will follow the funeral service at Protection Cemetery in Protection, KS.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Protection First Baptist Church, Protection Library, or Circle Of Friends in care of Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, P.O. Box 417, Coldwater, KS 67029.
