Maureen Herd, 86, passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2016, at Pioneer Lodge in Coldwater, KS. Born November 11, 1929, at Ashland, KS, she was the daughter of Clarence and Delphine (Wyatt) Harden.
Maureen was a lifetime resident of Protection, KS. She graduated from Protection High School in 1947 and attended Rockford College in Rockford, IL. On September 29, 1948, she married Hern John "Looie" Herd at Protection, KS. He preceded her in death on October 28, 2006.
Maureen was a lifetime member and pillar at the Protection Christian Church in Protection, KS. She taught Sunday School for over 60 years and held numerous different positions there. Other memberships include: Protection Township Library Board Member; Order of Eastern Star; 4-H Leader; and Cub Scout Den Leader.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one brother: C.J. "Sonny" Harden; and one sister: Beverly (Harden) Jones and her husband Dean.
Maureen is survived by one daughter: Sue Schwerdtfeger and her husband Mark of Capron, OK; two sons: John Herd and his wife Julie of Protection, KS and Charley Herd and his wife Jana of Coldwater, KS; one sister-in-law: Cay Harden of Oakley, KS; four grandchildren: Melanie Thompson and husband Kelsey of Coldwater, KS, Lauren Swingle and her husband Brett of Coldwater, KS, Jeremy Herd and his wife Kayla of Protection, KS, and Patrick Herd and his wife Nicole of Coldwater, KS; and five great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, October 7, 2016, at Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home in Coldwater, KS.
Memorial service is at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 8, 2016, at the Protection Christian Church in Protection, KS, with Andrew Evans presiding.
