Melanie McCoy, 76, passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at Comanche County Hospital in Coldwater, KS. Born August 6, 1946 in Oklahoma City, OK, she was the daughter of Dr. Ronald and Sibyl Belle (Adams) McCoy.
Melanie was raised in Coldwater, KS and graduated from Coldwater High School in 1964. She was named the first Miss Coldwater in 1964 and competed in the Miss Kansas Pageant. She attended Kansas University in Lawrence, KS, where she studied music and theater. She was licensed as an LPN from Washburn University in Topeka, KS.
Melanie was a resident of Coldwater, KS, moving back in 2015 from Simi Valley, CA, where she raised her two sons. She was a member of Chapter EG of the PEO Sisterhood and attended Antioch Community Church in Buttermilk, KS.
Music was a very important part of Melanie's life. She was a stage performer, opera singer, and classical composer. She composed "The Heritage Mass" which was performed by a full orchestra and choir.
She is survived by her two sons: Joel Goodsell (Lynne) of Burbank, CA and Jesse Goodsell (Krista) of Las Vegas, NV; four grandchildren: Ellery, Kai, Colby, and Kassidy; one sister: Patricia Turcotte of Topeka, KS; one brother: Robert Muncy McCoy; and numerous cousins including: Freda, JoAnn, Phyllis, and John.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother: Ronald Joseph McCoy; and one brother-in-law: Jack Turcotte.
Visitation with family present will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Friday, May 19, 2023, at Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, Coldwater, KS.
Funeral service is at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 20, 2023, at First Christian Church, Coldwater, KS, with Pastor Jeff Perry presiding.
Burial will follow the funeral service at Crown Hill Cemetery in Coldwater, KS.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Comanche County Hospital in care of Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, P.O. Box 417, Coldwater, KS 67029.
