Melba Mae Harmon, age 83, died on Sunday, February 9, 2014 at the Ashland Hospital, Ashland, Kansas. She was born March 7, 1930 in Protection, Kansas. Melba was the daughter of Melvin and Alene (Williams) Maris. A lifetime resident of Protection, she was a homemaker.
Melba attended school at Protection, graduating from Protection High School in 1948. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Protection. Other memberships include: Canasta & Pitch Group; Order of the Eastern Star, UMW, Mothers' Study Club, & Quilt Club.
On June 12, 1949, she married D. Wade Harmon at the Methodist Church in Protection. He died May 27, 1993.
Survivors include: three daughters: Cindy Delllinger and her husband Don of Protection; Gloria Monroe of Protection; and Valerie Heckart and her husband Kenny of Woodward, Oklahoma; and a foster daughter, Terri Rogers and her husband Sandy of Newton, Kansas; a brother: Marvin Maris and his wife Betty Jo of Protection; a sister: Marge Sangster of Protection; ten grandchildren: David Monroe and his wife Jennifer; Melissa Price and her husband Tracy; Andrea Monroe; Hilary Hanvey and her husband Matt; Amanda Koger and her husband Jared; Sydnie Bero and her husband Jeremy; Mitchel Heckart; Seth Heckart; Travis Brungardt and Dusti Rogers; eight great-grandchildren: Sidney Monroe; Brooklyn Koger; Mallory Price; Avery Monroe; Ethan Koger; Gavin Bero; Natalie Koger and Carter Rogers.
In addition to her parents and husband, Melba was preceded in death by a brother: Merle Maris; two sisters: Mary Jo Maris and Margaret Ann Loesch; and a grandson: Ryan Brungardt.
Memorial Service is at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 13, 2014, at the United Methodist Church, Protection, with the Rev. Jessie Zimmerman presiding. Burial will be at Protection Cemetery, Protection.
