Phyllis Rafler, 96, passed away Thursday, May 19, 2022, at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice Center in Wichita, KS. Born February 25, 1926, in a farmhouse east of Coldwater, KS, she was the daughter of Levi and Dora (Metzger) Steadman.
Phyllis grew up in Comanche County, KS and graduated from Coldwater High School in 1944. On July 20, 1943, she married Herbert Allen Rafler at Coldwater, KS. They lived on a farm near Wilmore, KS for many years, prior to moving to Haysville, KS in 1986. Phyllis was a homemaker and farmwife, also cooking and making pies at the Sale Barn Café and working at Warren's Department Store, Gambles, and Coldwater Locker, while living in Comanche County. After moving to Haysville, she worked at Allied Interiors making drapes and later was the owner/operator of Stitches By Phyllis.
She was a member of Haysville First Christian Church and a former member of Coldwater First Christian Church and Antioch Community Church, helping with many funeral dinners. Other memberships include: Coldwater Square Dancing Group; Comanche County 4-H; H.D.U. Happy Hour; and Sunnyside E.H.U.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert, on November 13, 2002. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two infant children: Burl Evan Rafler and Becky Beth Rafler; one son: James Levi Rafler; one daughter: Marilyn Kay Stagner; two sisters: Barbara Bayne and Agatha Allred; and one brother: Clifford Case.
She is survived by five grandchildren: Mike Rafler (Patsy), Mark Rafler (Kelly), Jimmy Rafler (Sandy), Barbara Ward, and Candace Blick (Joshua); great-grandchildren: Kara, Nicholas, Rachel, Abbagail, Pierson, Casondra, Michelle, Shannon, Dylan, Sandra, and Casey; great-great-grandchildren: Rachel, Brooke, Logan, Ciel, Zolly, Lilith, Savanna, Meranda, Katlyn, Athena, Skyler, Wyatt, Elliott, Elizabeth, and Olivia; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.
Calling times are from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 28, 2022, at Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, Coldwater, KS.
Funeral Service is at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 28, 2022, at Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, Coldwater, KS, with Pastor Greg Hamlin presiding.
Burial will follow the funeral service at Crown Hill Cemetery in Coldwater, KS.
