Haltom
September 8, 1932 – May 18, 2020
Rex LeRoy Haltom, 87, passed away Monday, May 18, 2020, at his residence in Coldwater, KS. Born September 8, 1932, at Avard, OK, he was the son of Ralph Preston and Ima Ruth (Beecher) Haltom.
Rex graduated from Avard High School in 1952 and attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, OK. He was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954 and was stationed in Germany.
On May 27, 1957, he married Phyllis Coleen Rickabaugh at Enid, OK. She survives.
Rex was a longtime resident of Comanche County, KS, where he was a rancher, fulfilling his lifelong dream and his love of horses. He previously lived in Elkhart, KS, where he was a custodian and bus driver for the school, and Sun City, KS, where he worked at the Gyp Mill in Medicine Lodge, KS.
Rex was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Coldwater, KS, where he was Sunday School Superintendent and served on the board for thirty years. He was a member of American Legion and received the Soil Conservation Kansas Banker's Award in 1981.
He is survived by his wife: Phyllis Haltom of Coldwater, KS; one daughter: Rex Anne Norris (David) of Wilmore, KS; a son-in-law: Randy Baker of Coldwater, KS; three brothers: Verle Dean Haltom (Ethel) of Alva, OK, Gerald Haltom (Shirley) of Alva, OK, and Clarence Haltom (Georgie) of Enid, OK; a sister-in-law: Connie Haltom of Fayetteville, AR; five grandsons: Brent Norris (Chelsea) of Sedan, KS, David L. Norris (Caroline) of Mannford, OK, Nathan Baker (Chaning) of Cape Coral, FL, Barrett Norris (Lainee) of Owasso, OK, and Neil Baker (Victoria) of Marion, KS; and seven great-grandchildren: Hailey, Justus, Violet, Addie, Milo, Ingrid, and Zillah.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter: Patricia Baker; two brothers: Ray and Jack Haltom; and a sister-in-law: Marge Haltom.
Calling times are from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Thursday, May 21, 2020, at Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, Coldwater, KS.
Funeral service is at 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 22, 2020, at the First Christian Church in Coldwater, KS, with Pastors Gary Moore, John Lewis, and Scott Warren presiding.
Graveside service is at 2:30 p.m., Friday, May 22, 2020, at Soldier Creek Cemetery in Belvidere, KS, with full military honors.
