Obituary

Richard Lester Trummel, 90, passed away Saturday, January 29, 2022, at St. John Medical Center in Tulsa, OK.  Born January 27, 1932, at Wilmore, KS, he was the son of Lester E. and Eulah Booth (Wood) Trummel.

Richard attended New Eden Country School and graduated from Wilmore High School in 1952.  He was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955 as  SGT Demo/MBT.

He worked at Burnham Products in Wichita, KS.  While there, on the side, he designed and built two styles of fiberglass chairs.  He and his uncle, Bob Trummel, designed a gas saver that fit in a carburetor.  He then went to work at Boeing Aircraft, as a jig builder.

On December 24, 1963, he married Viola "Vi" Brown at Wichita, KS.  To this union were born two children: Sheri and Terry.

In 1970, Richard and a friend owned and operated a full service Mobil Station.  When Mobil pulled out of Kansas, he designed and built a convenience store on HWY 160, outside of Protection, KS.  In 1984, Richard had triple heart bypass and sold the store, moving back to Wichita, KS, where he went back to work at Boeing, retiring in 1992.  Not being able to do nothing, he took up mowing acreage with a tractor, which he did until 2015.  In 2017,  he and Vi moved to Owasso, OK, to be near their children.

Richard enjoyed sports and visiting with friends.  He loved Wilmore, KS and was always very proud of his family.

Richard is survived by his wife: Vi Trummel of Owasso, OK; two children: Sheri Henning (Mike) of Owasso, OK and Terry Trummel of Owasso, OK; three grandchildren: Tanner Henning (Britni), Nolan Henning, and Elliot Trummel; two brothers: Sam Trummel of Wichita, KS and Don Trummel (Kathy) of Cincinnati, Ohio; and two sisters-in-law: Jane Trummel of Coldwater, KS and Heidi Trummel of Colwich, KS.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: Russell Trummel, Jimmy Trummel, and Gary Trummel.
