Ricky L. Northern
Rick was born in Ashland, Kansas on September 1, 1946 to Harold and Leona (Herd) Northern. The family returned to California in 1948 residing in Santa Ana until their return to Coldwater in 1953, where he has lived until his death from Bulbar ALS on January 16, 2013 at Kansas City Hospice House.
He graduated from Coldwater High School in 1965. He attended colleges at Haviland, KS, and McPherson, KS, where he receive an associate degree. He later attended Christ for the Nations College in Dallas, Texas where he received a degree in Bible Studies. He always enjoyed bible history and listening to old time gospel songs. Rick was well read in Civil War history and World War II aviation. He could share great stories of battle history, ship names, and many other details of war heroes.Rick served in the US Navy aboard the USS Ranger.
He is preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his brother, Gary, sister-in-law Jeannie of Escondido California, nephew Greg Northern and wife DeeDee from Waynoka, OK, niece Rene Verhaert and husband David of Dallas, Texas, and niece Chena Northern from Ft. Worth, TX, three great-nephews, and one great-niece and several cousins.
Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, January 25, 2013 at Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, Coldwater, KS. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 26th at 2:00 pm at Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, Coldwater, KS with Pastor Greg Marlow presiding. Burial will follow the funeral service at Crown Hill Cemetery in Coldwater, KS.
