Robert F. Metzker
Robert Frank Metzker passed away on May 29, 2015 in Hays, Kansas after a lengthy illness. Bob was born on January 13, 1933 near the town of Coldwater in Comanche County, Kansas. He was the third of four children born to Robert E. Metzker and Frankie U. Metzker. Bob attended various elementary schools in rural southwestern Kansas, graduating from Coldwater High School in 1950. After high school, he attended the Electronic Radio and Television Institute in Omaha, Nebraska, where he attained his FCC license. Bob was employed by Boeing in Wichita, Kansas from 1951 to 1952, working on radar electronics on B-47 aircraft. Drafted into the Air Force in 1952, he was stationed at the Wichita Municipal Airport and later at McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita where he and six others were assigned to the newly created 3523rd Armament and Electronics Squadron. Bob and Helen B. Prose were married in 1955 and relocated to the Boulder, Colorado area. After working various jobs in the electronics field, including the development of the new ultrasound technology with the University of Colorado Medical Center, Bob took a job with the National Bureau of Standards (later the National Institute of Standards) in the Electromagnetic Fields Division. Bob continued employment at "the Bureau" until retirement in 1981. Bob also received his realtor's license during this time. After retirement, Bob and Helen moved to the Dighton area in western Kansas. In his post-retirement years, Bob worked on Kansas small business development and grant procurement through his company METRECO. Throughout his career, Bob was most proud of his contributions to the development of ultrasound technology and its application in the medical field.
Bob is predeceased by his parents, his older sister, Betty Ross, and an infant sister, Elizabeth. He is survived by his younger sister, Ruby Pepperd of Coldwater, his daughter Rebecca Metzker-Hansen (Brian) of Boulder, Colorado, and his son Robert C. Metzker (Donna) of Ness City, Kansas, six grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
SERVICE INFORMATION
The Family will greet friends at 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 3, 2015, at Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home in Coldwater, KS, followed by a Graveside Service at 2:00 p.m., at Crown Hill Cemetery in Coldwater, KS.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later time in Hays, KS.
