Obituary

Robert LaFont Schiefen, 76, of Coldwater, KS, died Friday, Aug. 18, 2023, in his home. He had suffered from advanced Parkinson's Disease and COPD

The son of Charles A. and Margo (LaFont) Schiefen, he was born July 30, 1947, in Colby, KS, where he attended school and graduated from Colby High School

He attended the University of Kansas, Louisiana State University, and Arizona State University, centering his studies on classes related to mining and petroleum industry.

He went into the U.S. Army in 1969 and was a rifleman on a helicopter crew. While serving his country in the Army, he received the Bronze Star with "V" for valor for valorous action as a rifleman with the 17th Mechanized Cavalry near An Khe, Vietnam.

As a young man he worked in coal mines in Kansas and later was an oil and gas leasing agent until his retirement a few years ago.

He was preceded in death by his parents and nephew Michael Schlagech.

His survivors include: two sisters, Marcia Schlagech of Colby, KS and Janet Conner of Denver, CO; and one brother, Richard Schiefen of Houston TX.

As per the wishes of the deceased, his body has been cremated, and there will be no funeral service.
