Ruth Ellen (Sutherland) Timmons

Ruth Ellen (Sutherland) Timmons, 85, passed away Sunday, October 7, 2012, at the Protection Valley Manor in Protection, KS. Ruth was born November 26, 1926 in Dodge City, KS to Loren and Edith (Steele) Sutherland of Meade, KS. After graduating from Meade High School, she attended Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS.
Ruth began her career at the age of 14 when the editor of the Meade Globe News taught her to run a linotype machine. She worked there until graduation from high school. Ruth worked at the Western Star in Coldwater, KS for 35 years and then as the District Secretary for the Comanche County Conservation District in Coldwater from 1980-2000.
January 5, 1947, Charles Timmons and Ruth Sutherland were united in marriage. Two children were born: Carol Susan, July 22, 1949, and David Loren, March 4, 1953.
Survivors include her daughter: Carol Wade and her husband Larry of Arizona; three grandchildren: Michael Wade of Arizona, Natalie Timmons of Wichita, KS and Chris Timmons of Lubbock, TX; and a daughter-in-law: Genise Timmons of Coldwater, KS.
Ruth was a member of the Eastern Star Chapter 224. She was also an active member in the community churches, playing organ, piano, and singing. She loved music, crossword puzzles, crocheting, and being the neighborhood grandma.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, two brothers, her husband, and a son.

Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, at Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, Coldwater, KS. Funeral service is at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 10, 2012, at Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, Coldwater, KS, with Pastor Greg Marlow presiding.
Burial will follow the funeral service at Crown Hill Cemetery in Coldwater, KS.
