Obituary

Thelma Lorrene Lytle

Thelma Lorrene (Metzger) Lytle, 95, died April 13, 2014, at Pioneer Lodge, Coldwater, KS. Born October 29, 1918 at Coldwater, KS, she was the daughter of Eddie and Ruth (Case) Metzger.

Thelma graduated from Wilmore High School in 1937. She married William Lowell Lytle on February 1, 1940 in Coldwater, living nearly her entire life in Coldwater as a homemaker. When her youngest child reached junior high age, she took a job at Peoples State Bank as secretary to the president and later worked at Burton Drug and the Northside Market.

To this union were born three children who survive, son: Ronn Keith Lytle and wife Linda; and daughters: Linda Jean Lytle and Patricia Jane Hayse, all of Coldwater, KS.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Lowell , who died January 12, 1993; her parents; three brothers: Howard, Floyd, and Glenn; grandson: William Hayse; and great-grandson: Christopher Lytle.

Survivors also include a sister: Naomi Jean Bogdahn of Woodward, OK; five grandchildren: Shanda Kitzmiller and Michelle Holligan, Denise Potter and Brandt Lytle, and Theron Hayse; ten great-grandchildren: Ashley, Jennifer, Ryan, Bret, Angie, Fred, Erin, Amy, Alex, and Alyson; five great-great-grandchildren: Hunter, Harley, Sidney, Jackson, and Ella Grace; sister-in-law: Thelma Metzger of California City, CA.

Thelma loved to cook and was a great cook, so most family dinners were at her house. Even after she went to work, she still cooked and hosted a Sunday dinner each week. She would get up early and make two or more pies and make everyone's favorite. She taught the kids to play cards and other games at an early age including: Monopoly, Slap Jack, Canasta, Crazy Eight, War, Old Maid, and Chinese Checkers. Thelma loved to play bridge and belonged to several bridge clubs and even played on a bowling team. Later, she and Lowell joined the Coldwater Country Club and enjoyed playing golf. She enjoyed working crosswords, word find puzzles, Scrabble, and Gin Rummy. While she may have been small in stature, she was mighty.
