IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Virginia Ruth
(Lytle) Hadley
September 4, 1924 – April 22, 2024
Virginia Ruth (Lytle) Hadley was born September 4, 1924 to William Sampson and Amy Alice (Duncan) Lytle and died April 22, 2024. She attended Coldwater schools and Emporia State University where Virginia earned her teaching certificate. She returned to Comanche County to teach at Glendale, a one-room country school where she not only taught, but also was responsible for building her own fire, emptying the coal bucket, and mopping the floor.
On December 23, 1945, she became the bride of Bob Hadley, and to this union, four children were born: Sharon, Howard, Bruce, and Lesa.
Bob and Virginia began building their lives by raising sheep, wheat, and cattle in the Buttermilk community and in Kiowa County. They attended Antioch United Methodist Church where Virginia enjoyed helping each summer with the month-long, full-day vacation Bible school, attending Bible study groups and monthly family potlucks. In later years, Bob and Virgina transferred their membership back to the Presbyterian Church in Coldwater, and both took active leadership roles including being Deacons.
Virginia worked alongside Bob to build a successful farming and cattle operation. Additionally, she worked at the Comanche County Hospital as a cook, Coldwater High School as a secretary, and Peoples State Bank.
Bob and Virginia enjoyed traveling around our country and after Bob's death she continued traveling with her life-long friend Marjorie Gates Corbett and then with her family. She traveled to The Emeritus, Germany, Egypt, Italy, Jamica, Mexico as well as many National Parks.
Virginia was an active parent leader in Loyal Hustlers and Sunny Valley 4-H Clubs. She taught several girls to cook and supervised her own children in all kinds of projects. She kept busy raising her children, playing bridge, attending HDU, Bible study clubs, Civic Club, PEO and the Red Hat Society.
In 2007 Virginia moved to Menger Springs Senior Living Center in Boerne, Texas to be closer to her daughter, Sharon. Here she joined St Mark's Presbyterian Church, reconnected with a PEO Chapter and Red Hat Society. She played bridge several times a week and became known as the "Ace" bridge player in the community.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, a granddaughter, Sarah Marie Hadley, and daughter-in-law Sherry Hadley. Those surviving include Sharon (Ron) Collier; Howard; Bruce (Doreen); and Lesa; 15 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home on Friday, May 24,2024 from 5:30-7:30 PM. A private burial will take place on Saturday, May 25th.
